DE9: Closer to the Edit — 25 Years Later
In 2001, Richie Hawtin released DE9: Closer to the Edit, a landmark mix that pushed the idea of DJing beyond mixing records. Built from hundreds of fragments, loops and edits, it turned existing tracks into something entirely new.
25 years later, DE9 Parts is an interactive, unofficial tribute to that approach.
Inspired by the original DE9: Closer to the Edit – Parts vinyl, www.de9parts.com lets you explore the individual loops and fragments behind the mix. Listen, loop, change tempo and combine parts to experience the album from a different perspective.
The project is a non-commercial tribute, created independently to celebrate an album that still feels remarkably relevant 25 years after its release.

DE9 Parts was created by Merijn Straathof, a Dutch designer and Creative Partner at JUST. He first discovered DE9: Closer to the Edit at the age of 14, when it became one of the records that introduced him to minimal techno and electronic music.
25 years later, the project brings together his love for the album, design, technology and interactive experimentation.
